Tom Green Live (finally something worth watching)

Filed under: social comment, suggested consumption — 11:39 am

I’ve been watching Tom Green’s new “web-o-vision” show for a while now… Tom Green Live… It really is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time… It’s live as the name suggests and he has had guests like Andy Dick, Harland Williams, and Crispin Glover on it… One highlight was an episode with Steve-O and Carson Daily… You’ll just have to watch to find out why… you can also call in (Tom’s home number: 323-845-9976) and talk to these guys… pretty good stuff… very entertaining… did I mention it is uncensored… Anyway… enough talk… Just go here TomGreen.com and watch live at 8pm pst… You can also watch older shows in the on demand section… Tell everyone and maybe something good will actually stick around for a while…

also… advertise on it if you can… after all… funny doesn’t grow on trees…

on a side note… If you haven’t seen “Freddy Got Fingered” definately check it out…

[update]

Interesting answer from Tom…

Don’t you get tired of critics? I mean, I know they have their place and from time to time, their criticisms may be valid but geez. Seems that everyone has an opinion. I pop in to the Channel and see you being criticized for something or nothing at all. “You should do this”, “You should do that”. Post my email, you prick. Don’t wear that tie, you jerk. Wear the other tie, moron. You slipped up, “Jack”, pick up the phone you don’t listen to me, jerk. Be nice to your callers, be mean to your callers. You don’t know digg. I want your hair purple, leave your hair orange, hire Robert, fire Robert. We liked the old TG. Your show is lame. Man! It’s YOUR channel! You’re the one with 20 years experience. I kinda think you know what you’re doing even as you’re making (some of) it up as you go along. I know you want to try to keep things positive around here and you do a great job but it just pisses me off. Aren’t you ever tempted to call this FUTV?

I think the criticism causes me to think more. But, I do not like it. It would be nice if it stopped. But I do think it makes me work harder, not less. And this stuff is alot of work. But it also makes me sad, and perhaps less funny. So critics do have an impact for sure. I get up everyday at about 7:30 and get into it. It being building this tv channel, tomgreen.com - But the thing is, that most people don’t understand, is the complexity of what we are doing. There simply is not enough time, manpower, or resources to do everything that can be done in the traditional TV universe. Therefore, we are finding a way to evolve the show, into almost a new way of producing tv. That can be done cheaply and efficiently, for the internet. And this is exciting, because it does give me as a comedic persona lets say, more freedom. But we do end up spending 99 percent of our days over here, just building and maintaining and constantly upgrading our computer systems. DOING COMPUTER STUFF!! Basically we are the technicians at a network. Not content producers only. We do both, in unison, and weve them together. (but that is another point) There is a reason I do not spend extensive time researching guests and preparing lame questions that have been asked 1000000000 times already and anybody who cared could find out the answer at the touch of a search button… Damnit man! Doesn’t that kid get it! I want to see how Kevin Rose drinks a beer! Not how he answers the same fuckin question for the 10000000000 time. I want to see how people react, to regular things. How do they handle themselves here, our guests on the web, with all of you watching and calling? And all of the crazy unpredictable little bumps along the way. Including the occasional bark at robert, or crackle in the stream. How does Dave Navarro react to all that stuff? Not just another boring question. But instead some organized confusion. With a great sense of humour as we found out. Along with all of our guests. Weird Al getting comfortable enough to leap up on the desk and wrap his leg around his head. Trust me. He would not have done that had I been asking “good questions”. Think about what I am doing while you watch tonight. I am making people comfortable, in the studio, by distracting them. And having a good time. And snapping at people like robert, about stuff the guest had never even thought about in their lives. Like how our on-demand section isn’t updated. Did you see when Ed Mcmahon scolded me for snapping at Bryan? Did you see that? That was awesome. I knew Ed wasn’t going to be down with the yelling, so I just gave a little snap. And Ed caught it, and he scolded me, and I apologized. And ya see, that was all an act of improve. Ed Mcmahon is a performer, and hopefully my seeming incompetent was part of what made him comfortable enough, to take charge, and put on an awesome show. As he did the other night. I would ask all of you to go to the on demand page and watch that show with ed mcmahon. He was amazing. Thanks Ed. Anyway, to answer your question about critics. In this environment, to the not so keen observer, this show seems dis-organized. And in many ways, it actually is. But if you are a keen observer, and you pay attention, you will see that much of this is a ruse. So you can enjoy some real moments of reaction. Not this canned tv that we have on tv. The system is flawed. Comedy is being second, third, and fourth guessed before it gets to the viewer. Anyway, it’s complicated. Let’s talk more about this later. Cheers Annette - Tom Green
