ANNUAL REPORT TO CONGRESS OF CHINA MILITARY DEVELOPMENT

Filed under: politics, social comment — 11:43 am

Here are some quotes about what is publicly known of china’s military development.

“The PLA’s transformation features new doctrine for modern warfare, reform of military institutions and personnel systems, improved exercise and training standards, and the acquisition of advanced foreign (especially Russian) and domestic weapon systems. Several aspects of China’s military development have surprised U.S. analysts, including the pace and scope of its strategic forces modernization. China’s military expansion is already such as to alter regional military balances. Long-term trends in China’s strategic nuclear forces modernization, land- and sea-based access denial capabilities, and emerging precision-strike weapons have the potential to pose credible threats to modern militaries operating in the region.” - ARC

Another interesting quote

“Evidence exists that China is improving its situational awareness in space, which will give it the ability to track and identify most satellites. Such capability will allow for the deconfliction of Chinese satellites, and would also be required for offensive actions. At least one of the satellite attack systems appears to be a groundbased laser designed to damage or blind imaging satellites.” - ARC

And then there is this from an article in defensenews.com by vago muradian

“China has fired high-power lasers at U.S. spy satellites flying over its territory in what experts see as a test of Chinese ability to blind the spacecraft, according to sources.
It remains unclear how many times a ground-based laser was tested against U.S. spacecraft or whether it was successful.”

Is Star Wars Pro Slavery?

I was watching futurama the other night on adult swim and was vegging out when I saw this ad for the release of the original (and I mean original as in worse than we remember) Star Wars trilogy… Nothing spectacular about it… A family talking about the things they like about Star Wars.. ok… Then the daughter comes on and says “I would love to have a pet Wookiee”… What?!? Last time I checked the Wookiee was a sentient creature capable of complex social and technical systems. The things can fly spaceships for God’s sake. How is something that exhibits human traits including bipedalism even remotely pet like? This constructed ad family clearly has some deep dark history still flowing in their veins. Tongue firmly planted in cheek…
